Robert Hooke is remembered today for his feud with Newton, but in his own lifetime he was respected for his contributions to a wide range of fields, including astronomy, microscopy, architecture and geology. This talk will discuss Hooke’s life and work in the context of the early Royal Society and its institutional research programme.
