Speakers: Dr Michael McCabe

Do planets exist beyond our own Solar System? In the past ten years we have answered that question. We have already discovered over a hundred extrasolar planets and can expect to find many more in the future. What exactly is a planet? How are planets detected? How big are the planets already discovered? Are any like the Earth? Could they harbour life? How would we know if life exists on an extrasolar planet? This talk will answer some of these questions and raise many others
