Joint IOP Scotland / SUPA event: an “Exhibition of Physics Impact” (featuring more than 30 exhibits over two floors of the Technology and Innovation Centre) followed by public lecture on “Energy, the Internet and Quantum Mechanics”.

Abstract for talk
The Internet continues to grow at a remarkable rate, but processing and communicating all that information is taking more and more of our energy, as much as 10% of all electricity already. To continue this pace we need radically different energy-efficient technologies.
Fortunately, new nanoscale optical and photonic structures and quantum mechanical ideas may solve several key problems so we can continue to satisfy our ever expanding appetite for information.
