As part of the IOP Energy series, Professor Simon Watson will talk about the Future of wind energy.
Wind generation has come of age as a mainstream source of electrical power. However, there are still a number of technical challenges to be overcome, particularly as wind farms are built offshore. High reliability and availability are key for offshore wind energy to be successful.
This talk will look at a number of different areas of current research in the wind energy field particularly the areas of offshore wind conditions, wind turbine wakes, turbine reliability, condition monitoring, future turbine design and turbine control.
The talk will draw widely on the work of the EPSRC Supergen Wind project which is a consortium of several UK research groups and industrial collaborators striving to achieve an integrated, cost-effective, reliable and available offshore wind power station.
Refreshments available from 19:00, the talk will begin at 19:30.
