Speakers: Vicki Hodges

ESA's GAIA Spacecraft, due for launch in 2012 will survey the stars in our galaxy and the local group in order to build up a 3D map and gain further insight into the composition, formation and evolution of the galaxy. To achieve these aims, the spacecraft attitude needs to be accurately controlled throughout the mission, presenting challenges for the design of the GAIA Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS).
Victoria Hodges is an AOCS Engineer at Astrium Ltd. She is responsible for the Inertial Guidance Mode for the GAIA AOCS.
She was recently awarded the 2009 Institute of Physics, Women in Physics Group, Very Early Career Woman of the Year Prize.
