Lecture starts at 7.30pm. We finish by 9pm.

The world uses over 85 million barrels of oil and 185 trillion cubic meters of gas each day in order to run the global economy. In this talk we will look at the science and technologies developed for finding and then the un-interrupted production of these geological riches from deep within the earth. How can sound be used to image ancient river beds buried kilometres underground and wells drilled 15km horizontally following each bend in the river? It takes a lot to put the petrol in your car.
