The Higher Education Group is holding a one-day meeting at the Institute of Physics on Wednesday 5 December, from 10:30 to 15:45, to look at approaches to teaching the foundations of thermodynamics. This is a crucial topic, as thermodynamics is fundamental and student difficulties with the subject are many.
The meeting will examine a number of different aspects, such as entropy-based approaches to teaching, the relationship between statistical mechanics and thermodynamic in teaching, as well as developments in teaching thermodynamics through biological physics.
Full details of the programme and registration will follow in due course. In the meantime, make a note in your diary and clear your schedule for what promises to be a very stimulating and lively meeting on a very important topic.
