Speakers: Prof David Parker, University of Birmingham

In 2002 the University of Birmingham purchased a MC40 Cyclotron from Minneapolis to replace their ageing cyclotrons: Nuffield Cyclotron (1948) and Radial Ridge Cyclotron (1961). Two years later it was operational!

The cyclotron is used in a wide variety of applications, for research and as a source of income: including radioisotope production, radiation damage testing and nuclear physics studies.

This talk describes the experience of negotiating to buy a cyclotron, moving a cyclotron between continents, and some of the current applications.
