This talk discusses recent UK climate anomalies in the context of global climate.
The last decade is the warmest on record globally and 2010 is the single warmest year globally in over 150 years of temperature records.
We review the science of climate change, the computer models that simulate global climate and predictions of climate change for the 21st century.
Regional aspects of climate will also be discussed, including the level of uncertainty in projections for the coming century to see which aspects are more or less confident and the processes that give rise to cold UK winters and wet summers.
We will ask to what extent these events are predictable on timescales of months ahead to provide reliable predictions that might fill the gap between weather forecasts and climate change projections.
