As evidenced by the appearance in 2011 of Siri - Apple's 'intelligent personal assistant' for the iPhone - the technology that enables us to talk to a computer has been progressing in leaps and bounds. At the same time, recent years have seen a huge surge of interest in robotics, particularly robots with humanoid characteristics. So, when will these two technologies come together, when will we be conversing with robots just as we chat to our friends and colleagues, and what will we talk about anyway?
