Speakers: Prof Peter Storey (UCLan)

Talk begins at 6:30pm, refreshments from 6:00pm.

The Government is sinking many millions of pounds into research on Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs) and Rolls Royce has announced that it is going to apply its small reactor expertise used for the submarine flleet in developing and manufacturing SMRs in the UK. So who is going to want to buy one and where will we site it? The talk discusses the UK's stalled nuclear energy policy and the role that SMR technology could play in meeting energy needs and providing manufacturing jobs for UK workers. Financial and technological/safety risks are a norm associated with nuclear energy so will an SMR be any different and why are they not being deployed already?
